Institutional Initiatives for Electoral Literacy

1. Whether Electoral Literacy Club has been set up in the college?

Electoral Literacy Club has been set up in Government General Degree College, Chapra in November, 2018 and it is functioning ever since.

2. Whether students’ coordinator and coordinating faculty members are appointed by the college and whether the ELC is functional? Whether the ELCs are representative in character?

The students’ coordinator and the coordinating faculty members are appointed by the college. Presently, Sri Krishnagopal Mohanto and Sri Rudra Sekhar Basu are working as the Coordinator and the Joint Coordinator of ELC respectively. Danej Dafadar and Koyel Mallick have been appointed by the college as students' coordinator and students' joint coordinator respectively.

The coordinators circulate all the relevant issues and divide works as well among the willing students time to time. This practice motivates the students to do all essential works regarding ELC.

The ELC of GGDC, Chapra is representative as well as inclusive in nature as it allows its members from different Semesters/Programmes and Genders.

3. What are the innovative programmes and initiatives undertaken by the ELC?

The college has been organizing different innovative programmes and initiatives undertaken by the ELC. The ELC has been showing its keen interest in organizing Quiz Contests, Voters' Awareness Programme etc. and observing the National Voters Day every year.

4. Is there any socially relevant initiatives taken by the college in electoral related issues highlighting their contribution to advancing democratic values and participation in electoral processes etc.?

The Electoral Literacy Club, GGDC, Chapra has been organizing different programmes to celebrate the Indian Constitutional Day (26th November) which include debates , elocution and quiz contests with students participation. The student members of ELC has participated in Youth Parliament Competition in 2018, 2019, and 2022. These practices help a lot nurturing the democratic values among the students.

5. Is there any initiative specially focused on the New Voters taken by the ELC?

The ELC has been performing extensively to sensitize the new voters,the newly admitted students to the college who are about to get enrolled in the electoral list by crossing the 18 years of age. The ELC has been showing its keen interest to organize lectures, Sensitization Programmes, debates to encourage their participation in the electoral process.
